Open Letter to the County ExecutiveP.O Box 306 Vienna, Virginia 22183-0306 October 23, 2003 Mr. Anthony H. Griffin Dear Mr. Griffin: Because of the relevance of possible tax increases to the forthcoming Board of Supervisors and School Board elections, I am making this an open letter. According to the Chairman of the Fairfax County School Board Budget Committee, the school system is predicting an $82 million deficit in next year’s school budget. Before the upcoming elections on Nov. 4 could you please tell the voters of Fairfax County if, based on current estimates, there will also be a deficit in the County’s non-school budget? Also, could you please tell the voters, again based on current estimates, how much residential real estate tax bills may have to increase to fund next year’s Public School and County budgets? I am sure you agree that these are important questions for Fairfax County voters. Thank you very much for your consideration of this matter. Sincerely yours, /s/Arthur G. Purves Candidate Fairfax County School Board Hunter Mill District Note: At the time, FCTA president Arthur Purves was also a School Board candidate. |
